Biography
Professor Dr, Dr Lubega Muhamadi (born 31st May 1970) is a Ugandan physician, health systems researcher, and education entrepreneur. He is married, of Musoga ethnicity, and currently leads Lubega Institute of Nursing & Health Professionals as Executive Director.
With over 25 years of experience, he has served as Medical Superintendent of Iganga General Hospital, leading a team of 400+ professionals serving a catchment population of 3 million. He also served as Principal Advisor and Operations Officer for NIH/NIAID-ICER at the American Embassy Uganda.
He is founder and proprietor of four education institutions, demonstrating his commitment to quality health education and community development.
Born on 31st May 1970, Professor Dr, Dr Lubega Muhamadi is a Ugandan physician of Musoga heritage and a respected leader in health systems development. He brings a deep commitment to quality care, health education, and evidence-based policy.
For more than two decades he has combined clinical leadership, operational excellence, and research impact. As Executive Director of Lubega Institute of Nursing & Health Professionals, he scaled the institution from 50 to over 1,500 students while maintaining full operational funding from internal revenue.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Muhamadi served at Iganga General Hospital as Principal Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent, leading a multidisciplinary team serving 3 million people and transforming the hospital into one of Uganda's top-performing general hospitals.
He later joined NIH/NIAID-ICER in the US Embassy Uganda, where he led research and administrative programs, managed complex US government budgets, and enabled high-quality HIV and health policy research collaborations.
His academic training includes an MBChB and MPH from Makerere University, followed by a PhD in Health Systems and Policy from Makerere University and Karolinska Institutet. He is committed to mentoring future health leaders, strengthening health systems, and advancing public health research across East Africa.
